Water Lilies
Water lilies (Nymphaeaceae), are a group of freshwater flowering plants native to most of the world. The whole family is around 60 species in 4 distinct groups. Although they can provide food and shelter for fish and wildlife, in streams, lakes and rivers they can also cause drainage problems because of their rapid growth damming the water due to the silt and other debris which becomes trapped in their stems and roots. Their popularity has seen an increase in the number of varieties which have been developed for ornamental use in garden pools and also for use conservatories which offer warmer conditions and open the door to growing different varieties.
